W5 Measurement in research- concepts and constructs; - typology and operationalization of variables; - the levels of measurement; - types and size of the sample - quantitative/qualitative debate. 2 sections

W6: Quality and ethics- quality and evaluation of research by exploring the types of validity and the reliability of measures. - validity and reliability criteria in quantitative and qualitative studies. - ethics in research 2 sections

W7 Qualitative research I: Foundations- meaning, subjectivity, natural settings, extensive interaction, reflexivity, purposeful sampling, naturalistic generalizations and flexible research designs. L - the main traditions in qualitative research: ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, life history and narrative, critical research, case study. 8 sections

W8 Qualitative Research: Data Analysis-qualitative analysis, such as thematic analysis, and the basic principles of working with qualitative data - the key role of transcripts - the process of data coding, categorization 5 sections

W9 Quantitative Research I- principles and applications of experimental designs - utilities and limitations - control-group designs, factorial designs and quasi-experimental designs. 2 sections

W10-11 Quantitative Research II: Questionnaire Design- design the questions related to a survey - relate them to the specific objectives, hypothesis, and research problem. 3 sections

W12 Quantitative research III: Data analysis-quantitative data management and analysis -descriptive and inferential statistics and covering issues such as: measures of central tendency, measures of variation, confidence interval or correlation. Excel software will be presented as a tool to carry out computer-assisted data analyses, such as tests of statistical significance. 3 sections

W13-14 Mixed methods and research reports- explain mixed research methods, - the purpose of research reports, - the rules and general points in scientific communication in social science, - quantitative and qualitative reports. 5 sections
